Steve Curley is a seasoned expert in emergency response driver training with over two decades of experience. He retired from the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) in 2011, having spent 17 years in the driver training department. In 2004, he completed the Grade 1 Advanced Police Driving Instructor course with Surrey Constabulary and was promoted to lead Emergency Response Driver Training. He played a key role in developing the UK Fire Service “Codes of Practice,” which form the foundation of emergency response driver training in the UK.
Steve contributed to the creation of the UK Fire Service National Occupational Standards for Firefighter Drivers (FF9) and helped prepare for legislative changes to the Road Traffic Act and the introduction of Section 19 of the Road Safety Act 2006, which standardizes emergency response driving.
Post-LFEPA, Steve became the competency lead for transport training at Babcock Fire. He now works as a Subject Matter Expert with Emergency Services Training and Resilience Ltd (EMSTAR), supporting driver training for various emergency services, including NHS Ambulance Trusts, St John Ambulance, and the Ministry of Defence. A Grade A DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, Steve has held this qualification for 15 years.
At EMSTAR, we are committed to helping students unlock their full potential. To this end, we have made significant investments in bespoke Driver Training Units to allow us to provide your training in vehicles similar to those used on the front line.
